Turkmenistan's Minister of Communications Hajymyrat Hudaygulyyev announced plans to build a national data processing center, develop a state strategy on artificial intelligence, and establish a specialized AI Development Center on the basis of Turkmentelecom. The minister made the statement during his speech at the international forum "Investments in the Future of Turkmenistan."
The large-scale digital transformation is being carried out under the "State Program for the Development of the Digital Economy of Turkmenistan for 2026–2028." The document covers the introduction of 5G technologies, cloud services, big data, the Internet of Things (IoT) and fintech, as well as the modernization of e-government, telemedicine and distance learning.
Pilot projects using artificial intelligence have already been launched in four sectors — education, healthcare, agriculture and traffic management. At the same time, the second phase of construction continues in the "smart" city of Arkadag using cutting-edge digital solutions; IT centers are being created both in the capital and in the city of Arkadag.
The head of the ministry also reported that negotiations are underway with major foreign internet platforms to develop e-commerce, and called on foreign investors to invest in the country's digital infrastructure. He described this as "one of the most effective solutions" for modernizing the communications sector.
